THE WAR OF THE WORLD 80th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION - 2 AUDIO CD / 2 VIDEO DVD It was performed as a Halloween episode of the series on October 30, 1938, and aired over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio network. Directed and narrated by actor and future filmmaker Orson Welles, the episode was an adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds (1898). The first two thirds of the 60-minute broadcast were presented as a series of simulated news bulletins, which suggested to many listeners that an actual alien invasion by Martians was currently in progress. The 2 Audio CD includes the original October 30, 1938 War of the Worlds Broadcast, the day after press conference with Orson Welles, the 1940 meeting between H.G. Wells and Orson Welles, and finally the 1955 Lux Radio Theater version of the War of the Worlds. The 2 video DVD includes "Studio One" The Night America Trembled (9 September 1957) (60 Minutes) this is a dramatization of the events of October 30th 1938, when Orson Welles scared a nation witless with his adaptation of The War of the Worlds and the Night That Panicked America (31 October 1975) TV Show (96 Minutes) The movie dramatizes events surrounding Orson Welles' famous - and infamous - War of the Worlds radio broadcast of October 30, 1938, which had led some Americans to believe that an invasion of Martians was occurring in New Jersey tells the story from the point of view of Welles and his associates as they create the broadcast live, as well as from the points of view of a number of different fictional American families, in a variety of locations and from a variety of social classes, who listened to the broadcast and believed the imaginary Martian invasion was actually occurring, with some people even committing suicide. These films were originally produced long before the advent of High Definition TV, therefore they are best viewed on a small screen. Set your HD TV on 4:3 aspect ratio. (That was the old TV format).
